Job Title:  Department Manager

Title: Department Manager

 

Reporting directly to the Plant Manager, the Department Manager will actively oversee and ensure successful manufacturing activities within given departments. The Department Manager will cooperate with all manufacturing and supporting function managers to ensure successful execution of planned activities while ensuring proper adherence to all safety and company policies.

 

Experience: The successful candidate will have at least 10 – 12 years relevant experience managing in a process manufacturing environment. He/she must be encouraging and have a coach’s mentality to motivate and educate employees to be safe and successful in their respective position. Other requirements include:

 

  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize, coordinate and delegate multiple tasks while remaining composure in a manufacturing environment
  • Knowledge and experience applying lean methodologies and conventional manufacturing techniques
  • Successfully demonstrates excellent communication skills at all levels both internally and externally

 

Safety:

  • Ensure compliance with all OSHA/Flint Group safety, health and environmental standards
  • Communicates situational information in a timely manner to all appropriate team members during an emergency response incident
  • Ensures all recordable/reportable, near miss and environmental documentation is completed, communicated and shared between shifts and to management team
  • Investigate safety, environmental and health issues using root cause analysis methodology and ensure corrective actions are complete
  • Leads plant 5S initiatives
  • Lead continuous improvement in safety using a combination of behavior based and process safety techniques with a goal of zero recordable incidents

 

Operations:

  • Provide appropriate support and assistance to department supervisors to meet quality, performance, cost and delivery targets, e.g. flow management, human capital utilization, etc.
  • Audit process SOP’s to ensure robust infrastructure, compliance to standards and highlight improvement opportunities
  • Direct and prioritize maintenance related tasks assessing safety, equipment criticality, and priority
  • Lead and direct continuous improvement activities to improve labor and manufacturing costs via lean methodologies
  • Maintain accurate WIP inventory accuracy via timely SAP transactions, adherence to cycle count schedules and proper reporting of inventory adjustments
  • Execute given schedule to maintain 97% schedule attainment or better
  • Report pertinent metrics in daily Gemba meeting
  • Prepare and present weekly operations report highlighting performance and activities to improve safety, quality, delivery, performance and cost
  • Actively participate in monthly business team meetings to align to business goals

People:

  • Coach, encourage and motivate employees in all departments to promote positive behaviors and effective team execution
  • Ensure compliance with policies and guidelines
  • Co-responsibility/accountability with respective department managers for people management (P-Logs, etc.) aspects regarding shift supervisors and off shift employees
  • Drive effective and timely departmental communications time to ensure align of activities with customer needs and plant goals
  • Ensure timely and effective plant communications through various means, e.g. departmental staff meetings, safety meetings, Gemba walks, etc.

 

Customer Focus:

  • Ensure all customer shipments are defect free à finished goods and packaging
  • Support successful resolution of all customer complaints using a root cause analyses to prevent future occurrences
  • Help manage the process to deliver 100% on-time and in full orders to all customers.

 

 

Education:

  • The successful candidate must have a High School Diploma or GED
  • An Associates or Bachelor’s degree in a technical field preferred
  • Green Belt or Black Belt Training/Certification preferred
