Job Title: Logistics Lead
General Purpose of the position: The Logistics Lead is responsible for facilitating the movement of inbound and outbound freight, including coordination of transfers to and from off site and 3PL warehouses. As needed the Logistics Lead prepares domestic and international shipping documents directly from the SAP system using source documentation and established reports.
The Logistics Lead is also responsible for creating and executing shipment orders and documentation, completing way bills, and providing shipment status/freight tracking information to support customer on-time shipping requirements for associated orders.
Duties and responsibilities:
- Work with the order fulfillment group to proactively schedule export shipments utilizing approved freight forwarders.
- Assists Shipping Leads with creating transfer orders for outbound freight to off-site locations.
- Coordinates expedited shipments for direct customer shipments with freight forwarders and/or domestic carriers.
- Provide disposition (Approval/Rejection/Coding) on all freight invoices in suspension with our freight bill audit and payment company.
- Research dangerous goods regulations, and assist in preparing the Shippers Declaration of Dangerous Goods.
- Prepare, print, assemble and execute Shipping Orders documentation for domestic and international plant support shipments in compliance with all applicable company and regulatory standards.
- Schedule and execute stock transfer to 3PLs other Flint DC’s as needed.
- Work with Logistics and Material Planners as needed to ensure smooth customs clearance/ pre-clearance of any imported materials.
- Support inventory and bin management activities, including annual inventory
- Key contact for customer service on all shipping related sales order issues, SAP data/ system errors and status concerns of assigned accounts with Customer Service, Quality, Shipping, and Planning departments.
- Work with Accounting and Customer Service to try and resolve all credit and shipping blocks.
- Recordkeeping duties as assigned.
- Input and maintain departmental metrics and data collection for plant and customer care activities.
- Work with direct manager by providing document control in accordance with company guidelines for document retention/ retrieval and ongoing updates to departmental SOP’s.
- Support plant safety and 5S standards by maintaining a safe and sanitary work area. Participate in monthly Safety Inspections.
- Able to learn & master various Shipping and Manufacturing transactions in SAP to enable accurate logging of material movements in the system in a timely and effective manner.
Required Education,Skills & Abilities:
- Extensive hands on experience with ERP business system; SAP preferred
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
- Associates or Bachelor’s Degree preferred but High School Diploma or Equivalent with commensurate work experience acceptable.
- General understanding of U.S. export and import regulations
- Top organizational skills for simultaneously managing documentation, high volume phone, and system data input, with a strong follow-up discipline.
- Ability to manage, prioritize, direct, and execute multiple responsibilities within a fast-paced, deadline driven environment.
- Exemplify commitment to and provide leadership to improve workplace safety on a continual basis.
Strongly Preferred
- 5+ years Traffic experience; preferably within a manufacturing environment.
- AA degree or a formal export/logistics certification in lieu of a full degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Proficient in the certification and preparation of dangerous goods documentation for domestic and international transport in all modes
- Basic training on Export Controls
- Hazardous chemicals experience preferred.
- The ability to complete the training for, and to obtain, Hazmat certifications as deemed necessary by Flint Management.
- Working knowledge with AES requirements for filing.
- Working knowledge of DOT and OSHA regulations as they pertain to the transportation of goods.
- An Understanding of international logistics processes and regulations.
- Good understanding of INCO-Terms and the responsibilities of all parties.
- Experience with the Export Administration Regulations (EAR) a plus.
- Ability to multi-task and keep up in a very fast paced environment.
- Must have excellent attention to details, persistence and follow through.
- Good time management skills and the ability to prioritize tasks.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office applications.
- Communicate effectively with both internal and external customers.
Physical demands: As this role will periodically assist in one of the material handling positions, the following physical abilities are required.
- Must be able to frequently lift up to 60 Lbs. and demonstrate aptitude for recognizing when to use mechanical assist device for safely moving commodities > 60 Lbs.
- Using a hand truck, demonstrate ability to safely move items (1 at a time), weighing as much as 375 lbs. each, multiple times in a work shift.
- Must be able to operate an RF scanner.
- Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, document scanner and computer/ label printers.
- Frequently ascends / descends a ladder in order to position dunnage and bracing.
- Constantly positions self in different positions in order to load, unload and secure material. (Including in between pallets and onto the floor.)
- Able to frequently move through the plant or warehouse and spend extended amounts of time on the floor.
- Constant movement and use of limbs; this position requires good manual dexterity, coordination and stamina.
- Ability to stand for long periods of time.
- Ability to perform repetitive crouching, pivoting, and lifting.
