Job Title:  Rubber Chemist

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Rubber Chemist to join our team. As a Rubber Chemist, you will be responsible for developing and optimizing rubber compounds for various applications, ensuring the highest quality and performance standards are met.

 

Responsibilities

  • Develop and test new products and materials to meet product performance requirements and expectations. This includes working with custom rubber compounders to execute toll manufacturing of rubber formulations.
  • Develop test specifications, procedures, and objectives to assist in developing new products and compounds.
  • Set up and conduct tests on new innovations to assure results meet expectations.
  • Collect and analyze data from testing, and report on findings with conclusions and recommendations.
  • Participate in product design reviews and provide knowledgeable recommendations when required.
  • Assist in developing project plans, budgets, and time lines in support of new programs.
  • Monitor and report on performance to project plans and budgets.
  • Continually review laboratory methods, processes and equipment for suitability. Prepare recommendations for changes or improvements as appropriate.
  • Develop/improve data collection systems and statistical analysis.
  • Assist in quality improvement projects as needed to address internal or external complaints.
  • Some travel may be required in performing the above duties.

 

Required skills and qualifications 

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Polymer Science, or a related field. Those without a degree that have an equivalent combination of experience and education will be considered.
  • The successful candidate will have at least 3-5 years relevant experience. 
  • Technical skills: Expertise in rubber/polymer chemistry, compounding, and processing technologies. Prior experience working with nitrile and EPDM rubber is highly desired. Prior experience with mill mixing and internal mixing is highly desired.
  • Analytical abilities: Strong research, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Attention to detail: Meticulous record-keeping and the ability to follow processes accurately.
  • Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills for technical reporting and teamwork.
  • Teamwork: Ability to work independently and collaboratively with various teams. 
  • Demonstrated ability to acquire and utilize technical skills to penetrate issues and solve them to root cause.
  • Personal commitment to safety and environmental compliance.
  • Familiarity with industry regulatory statutes is preferred but not required. Ex: REACH, RoHS, CPSIA, etc.
