Job Title:  Operations Manager - Press Room Chemicals North America


 

The Operations Manager will be responsible for overseeing and directing all operational responsibility for the Batavia, IL facility. This includes safety, manufacturing, supply chain, quality control, inventory control, planning/scheduling, personnel staffing and development, maintenance, shipping/receiving, etc.​ The Operations Manager also assumes department cost responsibility and is required to develop the facility’s operations budget, manages the cost to deliver the budget and deliver against ongoing cost savings efforts and challenges. This position reports to the Chief Operations and Supply Chain Officer and works closely with site laboratory and general Flint Group support personnel in all areas as appropriate to achieve customer satisfaction.

 

Experience:  The successful candidate will have at least 7 - 10 years relevant experience.  He/she must have high energy to motivate and mobilize employees at all levels and to challenge conventional thinking in order to drive projects, resulting in measurable improvement in financial and operations metrics.  Oher specific requirements include:

 

Operations Focus:

  • Lead the development and deployment and execution of the annual budget with actions/plans identified to achieve stretch targets.
  • Lead continuous improvements in labor and manufacturing unit costs, quality (RFT, scrap generation, etc.) and productivity (units per man-hour) through Lean, Six Sigma, ISO-9001 and other CI techniques/methodologies.
  • Ensure accurate and timely perpetual inventory balances in the site’s ERP system.
  • Ensure execution of capital projects per plans to include timing and budget.
  • Lead the development of a project pipeline in conjunction with the plant engineer and department managers that is tied to the delivery of the division’s long plans in top line growth, margin management, operational efficiency and environmental compliance.
  • Execute specific actions/plans identified to achieve stretch targets in support of the annual budgets.

 

Safety Focus:

  • Lead plant housekeeping using 5S methodology.
  • Ensure compliance with all OHSA/Flint safety, health and environmental standards.
  • Lead continuous improvement in safety using a combination of behavior based and process safety techniques with a goal of zero recordable incidents.
  • Ensure all recordable/reportable injuries, near misses and environmental upsets are investigated using a root cause methodology and ensure all corrective actions are completed in a timely manner.
  • Verify all safety, environmental and health policies and procedures are strictly followed by all plant employees.

 

Customer Focus:

  • Ensure all customer shipments are defect free à finished goods and packaging
  • Lead successful resolution of all customer complaints using a root cause analyses to prevent future occurrences.
  • Ensure process management to deliver 100% on-time and in full orders to all customers.
  • Execute specific actions/plans identified to achieve stretch targets in support of the annual budgets.

 

People Focus:

  • Develop and ensure attainment of a formal people plan, including training courses, for all plant employees that is connected to their individual and company development needs.
  • Initiate a plant staff meeting to effectively communication timely and critical information plus ensure align of activities.  This is to include a monthly report.
  • Ensure timely and effective plant communications through various means, e.g. departmental staff meetings, safety meetings, Gemba walks, etc.
  • Develop and maintain a Performance Log to drive personal development with biannual updates.

 

Education

  • Bachelor's Degree in Science or Business Administration with 5+ years of experience in a manufacturing environment and at least 5 years of experience in a management role is required.  Those without a degree that have an equivalent combination of experience and education will be considered.
  • Knowledge of packaging equipment and formulation processing and strong technical background preferred.

 

Other Characteristics

  • 5-7+ years in supply chain with increasing responsibility required.
  • Computer proficiency including a high level of  hand on SAP experience in a chemical manufacturing background.
  • Strong expertise and demonstrable results with continuous improvement concepts. Knowledge of packaging and manufacturing.  Knowledge of OSHA safety regulations and requirements. Demonstrated ability to acquire and utilize technical skills to penetrate issues and solve them to root cause. Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft PowerPoint.
