Job Title:  Driver, Tractor Trailer

Job Title:           Truck Driver / Material Handler               Department:             Supply Chain – Logistics

Reports to:        Logistics Manager                                 Exempt Status: Non-Exempt

General Purpose of the position: To safely transport raw materials and finished goods between company manufacturing facilities, warehouses and vendors.

Duties and responsibilities:

  • While operating a tractor trailer, safely move finished goods and raw materials to, from, and between loading docks, delivery vehicles, storage areas, and production areas either manually or using equipment such as hand trucks, tractors, or forklifts.
  • Perform lineside delivery and pick up of raw materials and/or finished goods.
  • Follow written or oral instructions regarding daily tasks and job duties.
  • Sort cargo during loading or unloading process and mark containers as required with identifying information.
  • Document all moves and complete SAP transactions as required.
  • Utilize protective devices—padding, straps, etc.—to prevent damage to items during transport.
  • Use assistive devices—slings, hooks, etc.—to lift and guide cargo.
  • Operate machinery such as booms, cameras, cranes, and forklifts to handle materials and stock.
  • Assist with inventory control by performing cycle counts.
  • Adhere to all company and facility specific safety rules.
  • Assist with 5s efforts and ongoing lean projects.
  • Observe and report equipment or mechanical failures immediately.
  • Manage routes and routines so they proceed in the most efficient way possible
  • Find ways to conserve resources, including fuel, to benefit the business
  • Serve as a brand advocate and ambassador in every interaction with vendors, clients, and the public.
  • Conduct daily inspections of the vehicle and report any problems or damage to management.
  • Comply with all DOT and in-house regulations and rules.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required skills

  • Class A CDL in good standing
  • Must currently have, or be able to obtain, a CDL hazardous materials endorsement.
  • No DWI/DUI in last 10 years
  • 2+ years commercial driving experience required
  • High school diploma/GED required
  • Ability to repeatedly lift loads of 60+ pounds
  • Current and valid OSHA forklift operation certificate (Or the ability to become certified)
  • Able to work occasional weekends, holidays and evenings
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Ability to speak, read and write English
  • Must be a “team player” willing to assist coworkers with their normal duties as needed.
  • SAP and RF Gun experience preferred but not required.

Education & Experience:

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Forklift experience or certification preferred.
  • SAP experience preferred

 

Physical demands:

  • Must be able to frequently lift up to 60 Lbs. and demonstrate aptitude for recognizing when to use mechanical assist device for safely moving commodities > 60 Lbs.
  • Using a hand truck, demonstrate ability to safely move blanket rolls (1 at a time), weighing as much as 375 lbs. each, multiple times in a work shift.
  • Must be able to operate an RF scanner.
  • Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, document scanner and computer/ label printers.
  • Frequently ascends / descends a ladder in order to position dunnage and bracing.
  • Constantly positions self in different positions in order to load and secure material. (Including in between pallets and onto the floor.)
  • Able to frequently move through the warehouse and spend extended amounts of time on the warehouse floor.
  • Constant movement and use of limbs; this position requires good manual dexterity, coordination and stamina.
