Job Title: Product Development Chemist
Position Summary: The Chemist will develop new ink and coating formulations to aggressively grow sales using Flint Groups innovation process by providing high-level expertise in formulation, testing, scale up, and commercialization of these products. The position will be a project leader for new product development, serving as the primary liaison with manufacturing, sales and technical services organizations, and interacting with external customers. The Chemist role will lead projects, have an expert knowledge of several product lines, applications, and markets, and have experience in all types of formulation.

Responsibilities:

Identify new and emerging technologies that could be relevant to developing new products or improving existing processes.

Conduct a full search and summary of technical literature related to work projects.

Develop new ink and coating technologies according to the company strategy.

Lead projects according to agreed upon budget and timetables utilizing Phase Gate methodology and deliver results on time.

Evaluate key technical information to recommend improvements in concepts, ideas and solutions.

Ensure that Customer, Sales, and Technical Service have all technical information needed to properly use new formulations.

Interface with Manufacturing, Sales, Product Management, and Technical Services as required to solve customer problems and support existing business.

Stay current with patent and chemical literature.

Maintains two-way dialogue with others on work and results.

Use first-hand customer information to improve/develop products and services.

Experience in publishing white paper in trade journals or articles is a plus
Qualifications: The candidate should hold a minimum Bachelors degree in chemistry, polymer science or chemical engineering and have proven “hands on” experience in formulating adhesive lamination, extrusion lamination, retort and 2C inks and coatings for the Flexible Packaging market. The candidate is also expected to have an understanding of the flexographic and gravure printing process, which includes current press configurations, coaters and lamination technology. The candidate should have the ability to work in a team environment, have strong written and verbal communications skills as well as project management skills.
