Position Summary:
The Technical Service Representative (TSR) for North American Flexible Packaging is a critical role within the Flint Group’s Packaging Ink business. The TSR will manage and support day-to-day technical aspects of assigned accounts, building strong relationships with customer technical and operations teams to achieve business objectives. This position is essential to executing customer strategies, addressing technical issues, and ensuring product quality across the assigned Mid Central region, requiring frequent travel to customer manufacturing sites.
Key Responsibilities:
- Customer Strategy Support:
- Execute the customer strategy for assigned accounts, ensuring alignment with customer needs and business goals.
- Build and maintain long-term, productive relationships with customer technical and operational teams.
- Inventory & Consignment Management:
- Oversee inventory and consignment management at customer sites, ensuring proper stock levels and minimizing disruptions to operations.
- Technical Alignment & Support:
- Work closely with Flint Group’s product management and development teams to align customer requirements with the company’s product offerings, delivering optimal value.
- Serve as the primary technical point of contact for customers, managing any technical issues through root cause analysis and corrective actions.
- Service Code 360 Initiatives:
- Work with the services team to execute Service Code 360 initiatives at select customer sites, driving productivity gains and process improvements.
- On-Press Evaluations & Product Testing:
- Coordinate and lead on-press product evaluations, using Flint Group’s tools to establish critical to quality deliverables.
- Ensure ink performance meets or exceeds customer expectations during trials and evaluations.
- Customer Training & Support:
- Provide training and support to customers on the proper use of Flint Group’s products, including color matching and ink recipe creation for dispensers.
- Team Collaboration & Resource Coordination:
- Act as the liaison between customers and Flint Group teams (technical, sales, logistics, etc.) to ensure effective problem-solving and service delivery.
- Technical Troubleshooting & Problem Resolution:
- Perform troubleshooting and root cause analysis to resolve on-press issues, ensuring minimal impact on production schedules.
- Serve as a technical expert in ink applications, coatings, and specialty chemicals, offering guidance and support to customers.
- On-Call and Off-Shift Support:
- Flexibility to fill in for Flint Group’s GT staff, which may involve working off shifts, weekends, or assisting with the lifting and handling of ink kits and drums.
Required Competencies:
- Proven ability to work collaboratively in a team environment, with leadership capabilities and the ability to influence stakeholders.
- Expertise in on-press service, troubleshooting, and root cause analysis.
- Strong understanding of color measurement and matching software, as well as color adjustment both on the bench and on the press.
- In-depth knowledge of inks, coatings, and specialty chemicals used in flexible packaging.
- Demonstrated success in leading technical projects and initiatives from inception to completion.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present technical information clearly and effectively to both internal and external stakeholders.
- Computer literacy, including proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and customer relationship management (CRM) software.
- Self-motivated, with the ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
Experience and Qualifications:
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in the ink, coatings, or specialty chemical industry, with a proven track record of cross-functional collaboration and achieving technical and business goals.
- Experience in flexible packaging is preferred, with a deep understanding of customer needs and technical challenges in the field.
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or related technical field is preferred, though not required.
- Valid driver’s license and the ability to travel extensively within the Mid Central region.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift ink kits, drums, and totes (up to 50 lbs).
- Ability to work in varied manufacturing environments, including press side and plant operations.
